The University of Pisa, founded in 1343, is one of Italy’s oldest and most prestigious higher education institutions. Though officially established as a Studium Generale with the authority to train university teachers, its roots date back even earlier, showcasing a legacy deeply intertwined with the city’s rich intellectual and cultural heritage. Today, the University is a modern center for education and advanced research, hosting 20 departments that span the historical heart of Pisa and its surrounding districts. How to Reach the Conference Venue

By plane

The airport of Pisa “G. Galilei” is a city airport located on the southbound of the town. 

Regarding international flight connections, Pisa International Airport (Galileo Galilei) offers numerous direct flights to key European destinations, operated by airlines such as Ryanair, Wizz Air, Volotea, and Transavia, among others. Additionally, it provides connections to major intercontinental hubs, including London Heathrow, Madrid Barajas, and Frankfurt. Moreover, it also has a direct connection to Dubai International Airport.

Florence Airport is easily accessible by train from Pisa in approximately 1.5 hours and offers connections to major intercontinental hubs such as Rome Fiumicino, Paris Charles de Gaulle, and Amsterdam. 

Rome Fiumicino Airport can be reached by train in approximately 3 to 4 hours. Other nearby airports include Bologna and Milan Malpensa.

From Pisa “G. Galilei” airport, the city center can be reached by taxi (typically 15 euro) or by using the high-speed, fully automatic People Mover service (located at less than 40 meters from the Passenger Terminal at the Pisa Airport). The latter service is available every day from 6:00 AM to midnight at 5/8 minute intervals. Of course, if you like, even walking is feasible, the city center is about 2 Km from the airport.

By Car

On the highway (autostrada) no. A12 from north (direction Genova, La Spezia) or from south (direction Livorno) and on the highway n. A11 from east (direction Florence).

By Train

The train station of Pisa is reached by fast trains (Frecciabianca) from south (Rome) or north (Genoa or Milan) and by regional trains from Florence, with connection to fast trains (https://www.trenitalia.com or https://www.italotreno.com) from south (Rome) or north (Bologna).
